Southern Plate: Classic Comfort Food That Makes Everyone Feel Like Family by Christy Jordan

It's wintertime, and nothing says lovin' like some warm and familiar comfort food.

And if comfort food and good, old-fashioned Southern favorites are what you’re looking for, Christy Jordan’s new cookbook, “Southern Plate: Classic Comfort Food That Makes Everyone Feel Like Family” is just the ticket!

Recipes for staples of southern cooking, such as macaroni and cheese, fried apples, fried chicken, sweet potato casserole, and much, much more can be find in this delightful book along with Jordan’s stories of family, friends, and good cooking.

The photographs in this cookbook are absolutely amazing. Photographer Jennifer Davick captures the down-home feel to Jordan’s recipes in photos of a batch of yummy deviled eggs sitting prettily on a glass egg tray, banana pudding spilling over the sides of bowls that look as if they are straight from Grandma’s house, and a table full of candied apples that look as if they could leap off the page.

As a long-time fan of Southern cooking, I found Jordan’s cookbook to be one of the most complete collections of old-time favorites that I have run across in a long time. I nearly wept with joy to find a recipe for Fruit Cocktail cake just like my mother-in-law makes, and the chocolate gravy my husband’s grandmother would fix just for special visits.

Jordan also shares her family's stories that accompany the recipes and are so warm and loving that you almost feel like part of the family after reading them.

You certainly don’t have to be a Southerner to appreciate the fine recipes found in “Southern Plate,” but once you’ve experienced it, you’ll never go back to plain ol’ cooking again!

Check out Christy Jordan's incredible website at http://www.southernplate.com/ for more wonderful recipes and to get to know this sassy Southern gal!

(After surfing her website, reading her book and watching her delightful videos, I feel like I've know Christy all my life!  But then again, that's how we Southern gals are! We love to connect over family, food and friendship!)

Here's a video of Christy talking about Southern cooking and why it means so much to her.
