50th Anniversary of To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Today is the 50th Anniversary of the publication of Harper Lee's classic novel, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD! All summer long, and well into the fall, there will be celebration of this incredible book. Check out this website for more information - http://tokillamockingbird50year.com/ Be sure to enter the incredible sweepstakes they are offering while you are there!

I'm currently reading a fascinating biography of Nelle Harper Lee, MOCKINGBIRD: A Portrait of Harper Lee by Charles J. Sheilds. (Review to come shortly!)

And I also have my eye on SCOUT, ATTICUS AND BOO: A Celebration of 50 years of To Kill A Mockingbird.

I have very fond memories of listening to TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD on tapes one summer as our family travled to Alabama to see relatives. It was late at night and our four boys were quiet in the back of our van, and I leaned over to turn the tape off for a while, thinking they had fallen asleep. I heard from the back..."hey, turn that back on..." They were all listening intently to the story! And to this day, they mention that experience from time to time.

So, if you have time this summer, pick up a copy of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, or sit down to watch the movie. I guarantee you'll be glad you did!
