Southern Plate by Christy Jordan - the ultimate Southern cookbook!

If comfort food and good, old-fashioned Southern favorites are what you’re looking for, Christy Jordan’s new cookbook, “Southern Plate: Classic Comfort Food That Makes Everyone Feel Like Family” is just the ticket!  Recipes for staples of southern cooking, such as macaroni and cheese, fried apples, fried chicken, sweet potato casserole, and much, much more can be find in this delightful book along with Jordan’s stories of family, friends, and good cooking.

The photographs in this cookbook are absolutely amazing. Photographer Jennifer Davick captures the down-home feel to Jordan’s recipes in photos of a batch of yummy deviled eggs sitting prettily on a glass egg tray, banana pudding spilling over the sides of bowls that look as if they are straight from Grandma’s house, and a table full of candied apples that look as if they could leap off the page.

As a fan of Southern cooking, I found Jordan’s cookbook to be one of the most complete collections of old-time favorites that I have run across in a long time. I nearly wept with joy to find a recipe for Fruit Cocktail cake just like my mother-in-law makes, and the chocolate gravy my husband’s grandmother would fix just for special visits. You certainly don’t have to be a Southerner to appreciate the fine recipes found in “Southern Plate,” but once you’ve experienced it, you’ll never go back to plain ol’ cooking again!

Pick out a favorite cookbook, pair it with a few kitchen accessories, and you’ll have a perfect holiday hostess gift or present that will provide pleasure long after the holidays are over.

Christy recently featured a wonderful idea for Christmas gifts on her blog - Hollie Jollies!  Chocolate covered delights that are sure to please anyone on your gift list this year!  Check out her website at http://www.southernplate.com/2009/12/holly-jollies-christmas-candy-on-a-budget-in-a-hurry.html for more info on how to make these lucious tidbits!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher for review. I was not compensated for my opinions.
