In Between: Pebbles, Books, Life and Giveaway

Just a little filler, just whiling away my days

Today I took a break with the makeup since Mummy woke me up saying we needed to take our 14-year old cat, Pebbles, to the vet. Pebbles hasn't been eating lately nor has she been drinking water so we're naturally worried as she has been really weak. We went to the vet yesterday and Pebbles got a booster that was meant to stimulate her appetite but it did little to motivate her to eat and this morning Mummy was worried as it seemed as though Pebbles was wobbly and unable to move much without collapsing in exhaustion.



So we took her to the vet and she got a saline and then a glucose drip. It was good to see her eyes become less glazed and to see her looking more lively after a while. There were some dogs at the vets and I had to endure a poor puppy howling in pain behind me while he got stitched up ): Apparently his owners had unknowingly overdosed him on antibiotics after a pharmacist had instructed them to give three tablets when it should have only been two. The poor thing had fits and has some brain damage! It was lucky the owners got him to the vet in time.

We have to take Pebbles to the vet tomorrow and probably the day after as well for more saline and glucose. Hopefully it'll give her a little more time. We know that she's rather old and it's rare for cats to make it so long but we're hoping we get a little bit more time with her. She's such a tough old thing, I'm glad I'm home now and get some time with her; I don't know when I'll be home next.

Anyway, I'm exited because later today after an appointment at the dentist (yay for not having to take my wisdom teeth out until later!) we went to a bookstore to find the sequel to Lauren Kate's book Falling, Torment only to find two L.J. Smith books that I never thought I'd get to read in this lifetime! I'll probably finish them both in the next few days so I'll do a review then!

Life otherwise?
Tiring. My birthday is in two days (on the 3rd) and I'm really starting to feel my age (which I won't discuss: it's unladylike to talk numbers!). My whole body is sore and aching and I'm starting to worry now, I think I'm going to do more exercise like Pilates and just general cardio. I really don't want health complications...

In Between: The Last Of Adelaide (For Now)

I guess this is going to be a summary of the past few weeks as well as a sort of end of the year post summarizing life in Adelaide...not that I'm leaving for good, I'll definitely be returning (January 4th 2011 at 7:15am-ish!). Where to start and what to say? This year has been a great one and I've experienced so much and been more open to having fun and not taking life (or myself) so seriously. I can't take all the credit for becoming a more easygoing person and honestly, sappy enough as some people might say it is, it really is Scott who has gotten me more out there. He is my boyfriend and he is my best friend and I'm beyond grateful I have him by my side.

Last month my college had it's big end of year event, the Valedictory Dinner or as it's more affectionately known, VD. What usually occurs is the entire college dresses up outrageously keeping costumes a secret until the actual day and then we have dinner in a formal style...and proceed to get drunk out of our minds. That's usual life at my college! Anyway, my group of friends and I decided to dress up as characters from the Greek legend "The Judgment of Paris" (which, if you know your Greek myths, is what started the war over Helen of Troy).

I think we did a good job pulling it off and we certainly looked like a Greek mythology with a twist! It was a fun night and it was great seeing what everyone else came as. To name a few (sorry, I don't really want to post up photos!), a group came as a game of tetris while another came as a game of pac-man, there were crayons and army combat figurines, a group came as the full cast of Wizard of Oz (my friend Sophia was the Yellow Brick Road! So creative!), there were Johnnie Walkers and life guards and so many more!

Scott, being a tutor, dressed up with the other tutors along to a fairytale theme. His character? Oh...

...well, he was the forever young! Haha, Peter Pan of course! Too bad he didn't have a Tinkerbell to dust on people to make them fly - I know I would've loved to fly off to Never Never Land with him!

Overall it was such a great night! I'm not sure if my make up is too visible but here's a better shot of it - well, better than the other photos anyway! I really ought to have gotten a clearer shot but oh well.

 

For inspiration, I used Doe Doeere's ice queen look. I didn't do a green lid or "wings" but I did the dots and it looked all right. I was aiming for a peacock style for my eyes and I think what I did was reasonable enough considering my bangs were covering my eyes most of the night anyway. As long as I had the "dark" look of Hera I was content.

The weekend before last (what a tongue twister...), Scott and I went to his Aunt's wedding and boy was that an experience of a lifetime! It definitely was not your usual conventional wedding but I quite liked the fact that it was so relaxed and casual! In the photo we're with Scott's cousin, Nathan, and...er, Nathan's date. I think her name was Stacey? Can't remember for the life of me, I was blown away by her stunning good looks...

Other than that I've been studying for exams, I only have two this semester but I'm not taking it lightly. I finished my psychology exam last Saturday and now I'm preparing for my philosophy exam this Friday. And then I fly back home to Sri Lanka on Saturday, whew! What with all the drama of Qantas flights, I sure hope I don't get too agitated when flying...

Here is a sneak peek of the shots to come - I love Kirsty and Carla's work! They make such a great team and I definitely look forward to working with them again. Yesterday was too much fun, from falling in between rocks to getting sand everywhere and getting abused by the ocean!

In Between: Kobi Levi

When I saw Kobi Levi's shoes in Doe Deere's blog, I had to check him out further and holy moly I'm loving his shoe designs! They are so very creative and outlandish and I know I'd risk wearing a few designs because they are all so very wearable despite being so out of the box. Definitely take the time to check out his designs, I have no idea if he sells these masterpieces but I reckon I'll be in line for one or two of his shoes if he is open for business!

In Between: Epic Weekend

Wow, so I have literally never had such an exhausting but fun-filled weekend! Being a university student is definitely a wild life but when you are also part of a residential college (as I am) it is intense. However, the nice part about my weekend was that a lot of what I did had absolutely nothing to do with college aside from the fact that two very special people from college invited me along - my boyfriend, Scott and my best friend, Alex (who no longer resides at college though).

On Friday, I accompanied Scott to his Mining Engineering pub crawl in return for him having attended my Psychology pub crawl a few months ago. I was curious to know what "his crowd" at university was like and in all honesty? I thought mining engineers would be dreadfully dull but I was so wrong! They are actually the greatest bunch of people to go on a pub crawl with seeing as out of all the pub crawls I have been on this year (and trust me, I have been on a lot) this was the first one I survived till the end. I cannot help but feel slightly proud of myself...even if it meant Scott and I got back home at about 2am and I had to leave for Mildura at 6am!

So at 6am, I somehow was still awake and ready to head off to Mildura with Alex. It was a four hour drive and was a typical road trip! We went for a Pink Ball which was to raise awareness and funds for cancer. It was a great night and I'm disappointed I couldn't stay more awake during the latter part of the ball when everyone was busting out moves to the 20's inspired music. Oh! That was the theme of the ball, the Roaring Twenties. I had a theme-ish dress for it but last minute decided to dress out of theme due to comfort. Alex went as Betty Boop and looked fantastic!

All in all I got about eight hours of sleep! Somehow I'm thinking this will take a toll on me later on but I'm glad I had some time off from all the stress and chore of university work. It's back to work for me this week as I have a 40% History essay due on Friday. Wish me luck, I have yet another epic week what with college awards night on Thursday and valedictory dinner on Saturday (for which we have to dress up!). Hope everyone else has a good week!

In Between: Backyardsenfest and Updates

Whoa. So my blogger only just converted to the "new" posting scheme and it's a bit trippy, I can see why everyone was complaining. Why is it that you cannot rotate pictures nor do they upload as they are originally?! That is, the right way around! I'm sorry if you have to incline your head for the picture above, I tried my best to get it the right way around but I guess this is a glitch blogger needs to work on.


Last Sunday there was a massive college event called Marksenfest that I boycotted (I didn't think paying AUS$60 just to drink the whole day away was worthwhile), instead of selling my soul I decided to go to a friend's place instead for what we all called "Backyardsenfest". And that was A LOT more fun and relaxed and we even had the same things Marksenfest apparently had - wading pool, face painting (hence the picture above, I got a dragon on my chest! The artist is AMAZING and I'm actually going to pay her to paint a picture for me), drinks...but we also had a slushie machine, popcorn, Bathurst, Guitar Hero and a very good crowd of people. All in all it was a great day and I'm glad I had some time off from all the stress of university and other things.

I have an assignment due every single Friday this October - no lie! - and it's definitely taking a toll on me. As two of my subjects depend entirely on assignments I'm a little stressed out about getting good grades. Two exams out of a potential four may sound like a blessing but truthfully I think I would have preferred tackling four! So I've been a little tied up with all of that along with some other personal issues but that's life for you.

I just thought I'd include a little snippet of my weekend and hopefully next week I'll have a bigger update. Hope everyone is having a good week, have a good weekend!

In Between: September Update

Just a little filler, just whiling away my days

It has certainly been quite a while since I've written and that's because I've been on mid-semester break! Or rather, two weeks off from university but more or less two weeks to finish off assignments due in the first week back. Nevertheless, I had some time to enjoy life a little and of course what better way than spending it with Scott and friends?


Scott and I went to a Moon Lantern Festival at the beginning of our break which was rather interesting. Being Asian it was quite an experience going to something I had gone to all my life in a foreign country where these things are pretty alien to locals. It was great seeing as many Australians as Asians enjoying themselves though, it's amazing how things can bring people together despite the vast differences. I think Scott enjoyed it, I know for sure he enjoyed these...

Potato on a stick! They were sooo good! But enough about that, here's a peek at what we actually went to the festival for.

There were some extraordinary lanterns and the parade was truly beautiful. My personal favorite was the Japanese traditional fan, I'm due to get one of my own from my Grandmother soon so I guess that's why it was my favorite of the lot (:

Anyway, other than that what have I been up to? I did a photo shoot with a photographer I've been dying to work with: Tony. He's such a sweetheart and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to do a shoot with him. Here's one of my favorite "motion" shots (even though I look distracted!):

Scott was nice enough to take me back to his hometown, Millicent, for the holidays. I went with him earlier in the year so it was great being able to go back and see his parents and enjoy the quietness of Millicent. Being a city girl (that is, not that I prefer cities but just that I've grown up in cities), I love the country and South Australia has the best country side in my opinion.

We returned to Adelaide only to set off again to another town called Laura which was where Scott's best friend, Max, had his 21st birthday party. It was a good night and we all definitely had a blast. Admittedly though, I was quite exhausted by then and all I wanted to do (and still do!) was get a proper night's sleep.

And that sums it up really. I will hopefully be able to post in the upcoming weeks even though I have an assignment due every single week this month and two exams next month to prepare for. But I return home to Sri Lanka on the 20th of November for the summer break so there won't be a shortage of posts then, promise!

In Between: Half A Year To Remember

Yesterday the amazing boyfriend, Scott, and I went to the zoo in the wee hours of the morning (okay, fine, around 8:30am, but still!) so we could feed some of the animals! It was my present to him for our anniversary two weeks ago but since I was terribly ill we couldn't do it until yesterday. Here we are in the enclosure of the first two animals - Manji and Akbar. Can anyone figure out what those two are?



This is their typical breakfast. Scott and I along with Manji and Akbar's keeper Andrew and another zoo volunteer, Trevor, went around the enclosure hiding these morsels in nooks and crannies. It was pretty neat being able to be behind the scenes even though we weren't exactly cuddling Manji or Akbar. Although...we might not have been so keen to seeing as...

Manji! They are Malayan Sun Bears and the most adorable creatures in Adelaide Zoo in my opinion. I could be biased of course!

After we spent a while with the pair, we went ahead to the next part of the tour which was to feed a frisky duo of chittering and rather eager for breakfast...

In Between: Yet Another Update

Yet again I've been awful with updating my blog and for that I apologize! I know I won't get anywhere without a little dedication, a little motivation and lots of hard work but life has been so tough on me lately. I've been really sick for two weeks and only now I seem to be getting better but it's still very, very slow progress. I've got a lot of university work to catch up on and next week is going to be another one of those weeks but I'm doing entries from now itself so never fear!

Also since I have holidays coming up I might spend a little time revamping Suki Chronicles as well so just a heads up. What else is to come...quite a few reviews on Indie companies and possibly more lengthy entries on my personal life maybe, still on the fence with that.

Hope everyone has been well! I know a worldwide flu is spreading since every where in the world the seasons are shifting from one extreme to the next so everyone keep healthy and don't fall victim to this terrible flu!

In Between: An Update On Wonderland (That Is My Life)

I've been M.I.A again! I'm so sorry and I promise you it is because of valid reasons. For one, I had my college ball on Saturday and boy was it pretty epic! I had a lot of assignments due before then too so I was rather stressed out last week (and unfortunately it's the same case this week too). The ball was well worth it though and a great way to relax in a way. Our ball theme was 'Alice in Wonderland' and so I dressed accordingly! Any ideas on which character I emulated? ;)

Scott looked amazing that night and I'm so proud he was my partner to the ball! Well, surely he would've been considering he's my boyfriend and all, sheesh! He asked me in the cutest way too, it was definitely a special night with him.

Other than that I have been drowning (not literally but close enough!) in university work and other work for the television show I am in (which I might talk about more later). I will hopefully get some posts up soon but until then please bear with me!

When Susan did her post on her fur babies I thought I'd do one on mine seeing as I'm missing them the most this week.

Being away and living in a pet-free college it really takes a toll on those of us who have critters back at home. I know most of the time I miss that companionship and the "movement". Especially Prince, who is an adorable ball of fluff (literally) and I left him when he was a kitten only to see him a few weeks ago as a full grown cat.

It's probably the reason why I feel like getting a hermit crab (one of the pets we're allowed to have in college along with turtles and fish). Just to have that "movement" in my life and a little critter to love and nurture. Not that a hermit crab would be as furry as a cat but hopefully still a great companion nonetheless.

A few things to address, most importantly why I've been M.I.A! I mentioned before that I just returned to Adelaide and that I might disappear and whaddya know, I did! Disappear that is, just like the Cheshire Cat, booyah.

I am sorry for being lax with posts, I was going to do a backlog but never had time to so I thought I'd skip a week and get back into it this week. I promise I won't be gone for a full week anytime again this month even though this month will be insanely hectic what with birthdays, filming and college and university events.

Now that that's out of the way, another thing I wanted to mention was Evil Angel's Giveaway. She's the owner of Evil Shades which is sure to be one of my new favorite makeup brands to order from. Anyway, her giveaway features two of her own Frankens Sweet Dreams polishes (which I am absolutely in love with!!!) and definitely worth fightin---I mean, entering for.

While on the subject of nail polishes, I have great respect for these bloggers who dedicate so much of their time to reviewing polishes. It seems to me that it'll take more time than makeup since polishes take great application care otherwise they just end up streaky and easily chipped.

I found yet another amazing nail polish blog called OH MY POLISH! which is also hosting a giveaway that I thought I'd mention here (while on the subject of nail polish bloggers as well as giveaways!). She's only got 75ish followers but rightly deserves more so get on over there and FOLLOW her because her blog is a great retreat for when you're having downtime...er, well I'm just speaking for myself here.

In Between: Back In Adelaide

Just a little filler, just whiling away my days

As you may or may not know I recently returned back to Adelaide from Sri Lanka where I had spent my winter break (or summer, as the rest of the world may call it). I had chicken pox over the holidays which may have seemed like a bad thing but it meant I could stay at home and watch an endless amount of Stargate: SG1! And other than the 27+ hours of traveling I had to do in order to get back to Adelaide I had a good break and return back.

I'm in my second semester of university and so far it seems to be hectic, hectic, hectic. I'm going to try my best to keep up with Suki Chronicles even if it means I'll have to backlog a lot of entries but if I disappear then I really am sorry. I'll post up an explanation if I do have to disappear, rest assured, and most likely I'll be tweeting from wherever I am so keep up with me through there if you want.

It's a windy, rainy and freezing cold day today in Adelaide but luckily I'm not outside in the brunt of it...yet (: Have a good weekend readers.

In Between: Bubble Tea At Bubble Queen

Since discovering it in Hong Kong, I've been quite the addict when it comes to Bubble Tea (or Boba as I occasionally refer to it when I'm feeling particularly Asian) and wherever I am in the world I have to have my fix. Unfortunately, moving from Hong Kong to Sri Lanka four years ago brought an end to my Boba addiction as the only place that offered this treat in Sri Lanka had closed down. It was only when I moved to Adelaide earlier this year that I was able to rekindle my affair with Boba.

Imagine my surprise when I returned to Sri Lanka for my winter break (er, summer time for everyone else) and found out from Mummy's friend that there is a new place here that caters exclusively for Bubble Tea and not only that some other mouthwatering treats too! It was literally heaven on Earth when I discovered Bubble Queen down Galle Road.

My main fix is the regular tea with pearls but recently I tried the Green Apple Bubble Tea which I imagined would be milky (as it usually is in other countries) but turned out to be a clear, bright green instead and surprisingly great for an extremely hot day. The only con of this is that after you finish it you don't get that satisfyingly full feeling you get after a regular Boba - instead you're craving more!

All in all though I definitely think Bubble Queen has great potential in Sri Lanka and I'm looking forward to seeing them expand their business...and hopefully open up a place next door to my house!
