It's been heartbreaking hearing about all the devistation the tornados have caused many many families recently. My prayers are going out to those who live and have family in Joplin, MO. I honestly can't even imagine what they are going through. But, my heart is right here in Minneapolis, MN where over 3,000 homes, businesses and city buildings have been destroyed by the tornado that hit last Sunday. 147 of those homes are completely uninhabitable, leaving hundreds of people homeless.
Even after almost a week, they are still carrying truck loads of debris from the north Minneapolis area.
My husband works for Minneapolis Park & Rec and has been working non-stop all week helping those who have lost everything. His job is to create programs for teens to keep them safe, off the streets and out of gangs. This creates a challenge for him now that several of those teens are now homeless and literally have nowhere to go. I am so proud of what he has done so far this week - keeping families calm, guiding them to the resources they need to get their lives up and running again, finding clothes, food and shelter for small children, and creating activities and events for these families in need.
This weekend, for some, is a weekend of celebration - heck, this signifies the beginning of SUMMER!!
But, as your out celebrating and having a good time - remember those who are suffering right now with the loss of their homes, belongings and most importantly their loved ones. Offer up a few extra prayers for them and if there is any way at all that you could help - these familes are so very grateful and appreciative!
Have a Happy and SAFE Memorial Weekend! ;)
