Just in Time for Easter ...Review of Childrens' books from the movie "Hop"

One of my "other" jobs is reviewing movies for my local newspaper, and one of the cutest movies I've seen this Spring is the Easter-themed "Hop."

The movie tells the story of The Easter Bunny (voice of Hugh Laurie) and his self-centered teenage son E.B.’s reluctance to enter the family business.  The family Easter Egg business, set appropriately on Easter Island, is a colorful wonderland of rainbow candy waterfalls, barrels of melted chocolate, egg moulds and silver wrapping machines as the bunny underlings and an army of fluffy yellow chicks work to deliver Easter goodies to children around the world. It's the Easter equivalent of Santa's workshop, the Willie Wonka of Easter-dom!

But E.B. wants to be a drummer, so he takes off to Hollywood to pursue his dreams. Once in La-la land, E.B. meets Fred O’Hare (James Marsden), a fellow unemployed slacker with his own lofty dreams and goals, when Fred nearly runs over our bunny hero. Pretending to be injured, E.B. persuades Fred to take him in, and Fred finds himself living with the world's worst houseguest.

Back on Easter Island, a power-hungry chick, Carlos, (voice of Hank Azaria) who has been second in command for far too long, has been plotting a coup d’tae to take over one of the biggest jobs in the world. Now that E.B.'s gone, he's got his chance.

As E.B. and Fred each discover who they really wants to be and who they really are, destiny will lead them to an epic showdown back at Easter Island as they fight to save Easter.

It's a really cute little movie, and just right for families to enjoy together!

And now, just in time to fill up those Easter baskets, comes five delightful children's books that range from boardbooks for babies up to a charming chapter book that elementary age kids will enjoy!

This cute book comes with adorable finger puppets that kids can act out the story with!



The chicks and bunnies have a candy-war in this book that is perfect for 3,4, and 5 year olds.





The Easter Bunny tries to convince E.B. that he is the natural choice to be the new Easter Bunny!  A great book for early readers.

 

More advanced readers will get a kick out of this more-indepth story of E.B. and The Easter Bunny. This books follows the movie to the letter, and is appropriate for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade readers.
