While doing an essentials shop in The Reject Shop (hey, I like buying reject tissue boxes!) I came across a BYS palette that was pretty much sold out (I bought the second last palette). Seeing as I cannot afford to splurge on the Urban Decay Naked palette or any other high end brand which does neutrals just to use daily I thought I would give the BYS Metallics palette a go.
Imagine my excitement when I returned home and swatched it!
Now I know there is a general sense of dissatisfaction with BYS products - I am so with y'all there because I was quite disgruntled with their products too. I only invest on their nail polishes as they are fairly decent. However, when I opened up this palette I could not help but feel as though I stumbled upon something pretty darn decent for daily use. Plus, it is a slim, secure palette which I can toss easily into my bag or when I am traveling with no fear of leaking! Which is why I am slightly off loose products at the moment, sorry Indie brands but at the moment I am a little put out with y'all...just for the moment anyway.
Now my swatch photos are hardly perfect and for some reason I can never get my camera to focus or more like taking photos with one hand means I shake and the camera shakes and you get a shaky picture. In any case, too bad, deal with what is given! In terms of the first four browns in the palette, you would think they are fairly similar but they actually do vary. Perhaps the first two browns (top and bottom) are similar but I have yet to use them as much so am unsure. I love the second (top) brown as it is the darkest brown in the palette and makes for a great crease color. The lighter browns, although they are more orange and yellow-gold to me (bottom latter two) are great lid colors for a day look but I like using them on my waterline and slapping black eye liner on top.
Everything is shimmery which I do not mind, mattes would be nice but I hardly feel like I am ready to go full on matte with my make up even though I do want to make the transition. Next on my search list will be a palette of matte browns...
One thing about BYS palettes is something Yumeko mentioned and that is how they smell of baby powder. It can be a bit overpowering when you open it but it is not a lingering smell. I personally do not mind the smell of baby powder but I can be allergic to it, certain smells trigger a sneeze attack and so with this I tend to be careful because it is borderline.
Now cue some very scary make up! I had on a look using Face Candy Couture (I recorded this look HERE) and thought I would just leave it on...
Now you would not be able to distinguish what is what so I decided to approach it a different way and...
...voila! You can see where I have tossed in some browns! I quite like how well the BYS colors mixed in with the Face Candy Couture colors, it seemed like a good sign and I especially loved how a little product went a long way - you do not need to scrap at the shadow to get a decent color. Also, remember I put the BYS on top of the FCC colors and they still stand out, so that is some decent pigmentation right there.
The next day - puffy eyes and all due to my bad sleeping habits - I decided to test out the BYS colors and see if I was dreaming about their glory or possibly really did find a worthwhile product. I used them without a primer - just the shadows on their own.
The colors are really pigmented, have a nice shimmer and in real life provide a subtle look that you can throw on for daily errands, work, what have you. I love this palette and think it is a keeper and definitely my favorite - true enough, since getting it a few weeks ago (yes, I am VERY behind on blog posts) I have continuously reached for it and nothing else!
It lasted throughout the day even when I went about my errands at university and in the city, did work, etc. I'm truly happy with it and appreciate products I can use without a primer - I'm sorry Fyrinnae, Evil Shades, Darling Girl etc. but some days a girl just cannot be bothered to work with primers and loose shadows! No matter how much I love y'all, I am relieved about the breather.
Ugh, my eye looked so ugly with the puffy bags under it so hence why it is cropped this way. I wanted to show what a nice foiled effect these shadows appear to have. They look like liquid on your eyes and this is not even a lot of product, just a dab on my brush patted on.
I love this palette and definitely recommend it for anyone who is not fussed by cheap brands and needs a good daily palette. At AUD$3 you really cannot go wrong. I loved this so much I went back and bought another palette...for my Mummy (:
