Yummy Saturday - New York City Style

Whenever we get the chance to travel to NYC, we always try to make it a point to try as many different foods as we can. A few years ago we went down, and did a few fancy restaurants. On our most recent trip, we really wanted to try something different, and some NY essentials!

You shouldn't go to New York City without trying an authentic boiled bagel! We picked up a few at 'Bagel Hole' in Brooklyn. I have (honestly) had dreams about these bagels since we arrived home.

One night we went out for simple NY Style, Brick Over Pizza - It was Amazing! We walked here from the apartment we were staying in, and had such a perfect dinner. Their Calamari was excellent too -

Okay, it was the best Calamari I've ever had!

This was the Best! This is some Oaxacan Food (Think really southern Mexico). We ordered the Chicken Mole Negro. On top of it being out of this world delicious, we had it delivered to us! By a man, on a bike, in the pouring rain! Don't worry, I tipped him well! ;)

This ruben sandwich and salad greens was a quick lunch we picked up during the day we spent at the American Museum of Natural History (That blog post coming soon!).

On one of our last nights, Our friends Jackie and Ian took us to 'Rice To Riches'! A restaurant that sells, literally, nothing but rice pudding. I don't have any pictures of our different rice puddings, but I do like the above photos of the almost futuristic containers and spoons they serve the pudding in!

I could blog for days just about the food in NYC! Anything you like to eat, you can find it there. To see more photos like these from New York, Head on over to Someday Smarter!! Stephanie has also recently returned from a trip to New York, and posted about all the great food she had a chance to try!

Do you like trying and finding new foods when you travel or go on vacation? Or would you just prefer to have food that you're used to and eat more often?

Phở - Trying Vietnamese Food in NYC

DSC_0068
I have so much I want to share with you from our trip this past week to New York City! (We had an amazing time!) I have photos, stories, and unique places to tell you about. Since today is a Saturday, and I like my Food themed Saturday posts - I want to tell you about our first visit to a Vietnamese Restaurant, and the wonderful dish 'Phở'! (Pronounced 'Fuh').

Our friends in Brooklyn knew of a great place to get Phở in Manhattan, and we were happy to meet them there! The place is called 'Mott Pho Bang'. It was a nice little place, with a cool atmosphere.

Phở is a soup dish, with white rice noodles, beef broth, and very thinly sliced, slightly rare beef (Or Chicken, but we went with Beef.) Before they bring your soup out to the table, they bring all sorts of accoutrements and garnishes. Including - Vietnamese basil, Lemon, Bean Sprouts, Sriracha, Fish Oil, Red Chili Oil, Red Chili Paste, Hoisin sauce, and more I'm sure I'm forgetting.

When you're really starting to get hungry looking at all the goodness on your table, they finally bring out your huge steaming bowl of soup! (With Chopsticks and a really big spoon.)

Then the fun part begins - Adding what you like from the table to your bowl. Everyone's dish turns out so different by the end! I had a great time adding one ingredient at a time and tasting, then adding more. The taste was constantly changing, and getting better with every ingredient!

I can't wait to have this delicious comfort food again! Have you ever tried Pho?
