When Dee aka Miss Prissypants held a blog sale recently I may not have made it in time to grab some of the more coveted items (staring down Stacey and Celeste...) I still grabbed some of the items that I knew I had to have for my daily wear collection.

 

Everything came so securely sealed! Dee is so amazing for ensuring all items came safely and I thank her to no end for doing so. It really made my day to get this package....

...and to find that not only with the lipsticks and eye shadows I got off the blog sale, Dee had also thrown in four loose shadows! I was so ecstatic over that, they're neutral colors and will be so loved.

 

First off is the Revlon matte eye shadow in 009 which is a very dark looking brown but the color is not as intense as I thought it would be.

I was a little disappointed but at the same time I quite liked it nonetheless since I can see it being a good softer dark shade for day looks and I am quite fed up of using only very light colors during the day and looking like a wannabe vampire when I use darker shades that are better suited for the night. So this will probably work out better for my day looks.

Next is the Revlon Colorstay in 02 Coffee Bean which is literally all the neutrals you would ever need. I rarely find - if not rarely, never - a good highlight shadow to use under my brows so I was pretty excited when the lightest shade in this turned out to be the perfect highlight.

The intensity of colors is the same as the matte so nothing exciting but I found it quite lovely when worn, it was nice having a soft, subtle dash of make up on and still feeling pretty without needing primers and bases and what have yous in order to make colors pop.

The claim is that it is a 12 hour eye shadow and I can see how it would be but at the same time I wonder whether it would fade. I will definitely test it out on a day I run around university a lot and come back to this claim...

Too much flash (:

I was so very glad I got to pick up the final NYX colors! I think everyone might have been intimidated by how dark they would be but I am in love! I think it is also because I have tanned considerably so it is certainly easier to pull off these colors (also, Mummy who is much darker in skin tone than I am would always be able to wear these so I might actually give these to her since she loves lipsticks). They are beautiful colors in their own way.

Saturn  is a pretty metallic reddish-brown, I feel it might be a bit too drying though so I am working out ways to wear it without destroying its true color since I find even clear glosses or Vaseline makes it a bit duller. I might have to get a good balm under it but I find balms tend to make these lipsticks move around a bit making application that much more tedious. Hmmm...

Fusion is definitely my going out, having a wild night of clubbing (er...if ever) color - it is such a gorgeous purple-pink! I love it, it is very retro and the best pop of color you can use to brighten up a dark outfit.

Gardenia is just your average color...neither here nor there and I do not have much to say about it really. Enough said as it is. But it is a good lipstick.

I love the extras I got, especially since Femme Fatale is my first Sassy Minerals product ever, even if it is a sample! And of course, Heatheresque is always awesome so I'm quite pleased!

The swatches speak for themselves really, I did these with Evil Shades Evil Eyes in Naked as a primer. The matte color was not as partial to the primer but the shimmery shades held well. I think the matte color (which is Dream Big Dreams) will hold up well just applied on its own as long as it is patted on rather than swiped. Very pretty array of neutrals that are definitely good additions to my growing neutrals collection!

Evil Shades Evileyes Primer Review

Let me nit pick on things other than nits

As soon as I got Evil Shades' Evileyes Primer in Naked I had to do a test of it to see if it really was true love. What better way to do a test than to wear it for a whole day and do everything you can to abuse it? That's what I did and I honestly did everything I would normally do in a day and went a step further and decided to be slightly careless while I was at it too. That is to say, I sweated, accidentally rubbed, ran, power walked, showered, blinked repeatedly, romped (if you know what I mean, ehehehe) and so on.

Admittedly, when I first opened the jar and saw the texture of the primer I lost a bit of excitement. I thought to myself "uh oh, this might not work out" and it was almost reluctantly (for fear that I was right and that we wouldn't be compatible, not because I didn't want to touch it!) that I dipped a finger and tested it on the back of my hand. I was wrong - it was love.

Don't let the picture above fool you, I swatched it a bit thickly so you can see the color. You only need a dab of primer and it is pretty much as it's name implies, naked, on your eyelids.

What I love the most about this primer is how it feels when it dries, it is the smoothest most silky feeling in the world! It doesn't dry out my eyes or mix with the natural oil on my face. The added bonus is how you don't have to wait for it to dry to work with it. 

On to the actual test run. I did this yesterday and used Darling Girls' Tarnished and Evil Shades' Cerberus, which is my new favorite combination in the world.

I did my make up early in the morning and the first thing I noticed about the primer was that it didn't have a "sticking power" for the glittery eye shadows [I purposely chose pretty shimmery ones] but instead the primer seemed to "embrace" the shadow and to be honest it felt like it was tattooed onto my eyelid. There is a slight foiled effect but it honestly seems as though you have color tattooed onto your eye! The primer made the colors more subdued without losing their shimmery intensity which was more to my taste.

Blending is so easy and it doesn't feel as though the primer gets blended up with the eye shadows as I have found with other primers - that is, the primers "move" with the eyeshadow and you end up with a bald patch.

This is after I went running around and had a shower...as you can see my lips look horribly pale but my eyes? Slightly duller but it could be the lighting because I found the colors were almost as intense as they were in the morning. There are no bald patches and even though I had a trickle of water run over my left eyelid, there didn't seem to be a streaky trail of eye shadow or eye liner. Although, speaking of eye liner, I thought I'd test out how eye liner does over the primer on my water line and obviously it didn't fare so well and faded off by this stage but seeing as it's pencil and not eye shadow I'm curious to see how a shadow liner would fare.

I have to apologize for not getting a final shot at night before I washed my make up off but I was seriously exhausted after running around the whole day - I also had a nap, went out for dinner and changed on top of the earlier activities of the day. However I'm pleased to say that my make up was still intact! The eyeshadow, although possibly slightly faded, was still there - no creases, no smudges, no bald patches!

Instead of using my usual make up remover (Baby Oil, by the way, because I'm practical), I decided to wash off my make up using soap and water and it came clean off without a fuss, definitely an added bonus in my book considering how exhausted I was at that point and just keen to sleep.

One more test...I decided to put the Evil Shades Evileyes primer in a battle against Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy which we all know and love. From left to right I used: Fyrinnae Kitten in Heels, Evil Shades Cerberus, Darling Girls Slime and Glamour Doll Eyes Hot Mess.

As you can see, the Pixie Epoxy is more dominant in terms of delivering a brighter more shimmery color as well as holding together glitter but I feel as though Naked gives a less harsher more workable daily feel to the colors.

Now this is where I feel Naked wins over Pixie Epoxy. The best part about Pixie Epoxy is that it's water soluble but this is where Naked is more of an investment: rainy days, crying sessions and water fights (hey, I live in a residential college! It's bound to happen). This is a gentle flow from the tap...

...as you can see, Pixie Epoxy really makes things slightly gloopy looking. Naked on the other hand manages to still keep even Hot Mess together. Slime doesn't fare too well but Cerberus and (sorry it's hard to see, mistake on my part swatching close to my bone) Kitten in Heels are still strong.

Back home in Sri Lanka, we often experience torrential downpours out of no where so I ran the tap a little harder this time around and it looks as though Pixie Epoxy couldn't keep fighting and simply decided to wash away. Naked however is still hanging on and can still pass off as almost fabulous.

Finally, washing it off with some soap. It seems as though Kitten in Heels and Slime are still desperate to prove themselves but I'm guessing this is their own thing and nothing to do with Naked. Either way, my verdict is that Naked is a fabulous investment for those of us who are working or in university and need a subdued kick of color that will last throughout the various activities of the day.
