VINCENT BUENO AND "HAIR"

For the sake of those who have not seen it yet and for those who want to see it again, I am PROUDLY featuring the video clip where Vincent Bueno performed Hair.

Vincent's performance of Hair was his first television appearance in the Musical! Die Show, a reality talent competition in Vienna, Austria that started sometime in the last quarter of 2007 and wound up in January of 2008. Vincent Bueno was declared winner in the said contest.

Vincent's performance was characterized by passionate singing, strong stage presence, powerful as well as beautiful voice, and very graceful body movements.

The audience responded to his superb performance with cheers and wild applause and easily made him the favorite of the crowd as well as the judges. In fact, he was reportedly dubbed as the "darling of the jury".

Undoubtedly, Hair is one of Vincent Bueno's great performances in the reality talent show.

DO I SMELL SOMETHING FISHY?

Couples of months ago, Tom of MySpace issued a bulletin or put a notice on my MySpace account. The notice said something to this effect: that my account had been phished and that messages might have come from or have been sent by my account but which could have not been sent by me. I was advised to change my password and not to use that password ever again. Which I did.

I signed up on MySpace, a social networking site, purposely to send messages of praise to Vincent Bueno who likewise has a MySpace account and who was then fresh from winning the grand prize in the Musical! Die Show, a reality talent competition in Austria.

I could not send any message to Vincent whom I admire so much unless I sign up on MySpace. This was because I did not know Vincent Bueno personally then and did not know of any means by which to congratulate him.

Vincent was responsive enough to answer my messages which numbered more or less 10 for the whole year of 2008. His last message was dated December 1, 2008 but he has not replied to my other messages since then. I was thinking that, being a star in far away Austria, he might have been very busy in his recording activities as well as in his singing and dancing engagements. Lately, he has been “dancing with the stars” as seen in some video clips uploaded on YouTube.

On the latter part of 2008 and on the early part of 2009, I noticed the words “web filter” appearing on the computer screen every time I opened my email or blog. Could it be that I was being monitored in my use of the Net?

I also noticed that the number of my friends on that particular networking site was diminished and my blog followers (this blog) also decreased in number. But I could only guess the reason why.

Just recently, someone forwarded to me an email with content I could not figure out nor decipher as the characters it contained appeared like they were html codes. Its subject read: VB: Will he answer? I wonder!!!

I was wondering if VB could have stood for Vincent Bueno. When I asked the person who forwarded that email what could the initials VB mean and what was her reason for sending same to me, she could not give me any answer. All she said was that it was just forwarded to her also.

Incidentally, the person who forwarded subject email to the person who forwarded it to me was that very same person whom my anak-anakan (a young guy, also named Vincent, whom I treat like a son of mine) told me had advised him to steer clear of me.

I do not mean anything by this, of course. I am just writing objectively.

But do I smell something fishy? Or am I getting paranoid? Just mere coincidences? One thing is for sure—I’m kinda confused!

ACCEPTING THE "HONEST SCRAP AWARD"

The HONEST SCRAP is an award. According to past recipients: “This award is bestowed upon a fellow blogger whose blog’s content or design is, in the giver’s opinion, brilliant.” Ms. RhonB (aka Pinkoy), complying with its requirements, honored me with this award.

I’d say it is quite ironic on my part to receive such an award considering I have just posted an article giving negative feedback on the giving of recognition and award.

Anyway, since I do not personally know Ms. RhonB, and judging perhaps on the contents of my blog, she deemed it right to give the award to me. And because I am trying to win the friendship of as many fellow bloggers as possible, I am, therefore, accepting this award—with a great deal of pride!

Thank you, Ms. RhonB! I feel greatly honored!

I quote the requirements of the Honest Scrap Award as follows:

Now, here are the ten (10) honest things about me:

• I used to be a mama's boy (and would probably still be one, if my mother is still around today)
• Humility aside, when I was in Grade IV, I had a remarkable achievement. I put our school on the national map when I topped the national test where I got perfect scores in all subjects. (Ms. Rosario Liwag-Zabat, my adviser, presented me with a beautiful rosary with bluish crystal beads, a gift of my choice, as a token of her appreciation)
• When I was 15 or 16 years old, I rescued a teenage girl from drowning in the river
• I seem to have a "hero complex", making sacrifices for the sake of others especially my loved ones; giving way and sacrificing my own ambition so that others may succeed; so that those who don't have the means or capacity to get what they need will be able to meet even at least their most basic necessities
• I am too good to be true yet, for almost always, I find the world so cruel... so unfair... so unjust... so unkind! I used to offer my other cheek whenever the other side was slapped (take note of the emphasis on "used to")
• I practice self-emptying
• I am a good provider to some of my siblings who still depend on me
• I experienced nervous breakdown and survived not only the storm but the "tsunami of life"
• I was nominated 2001 World Champion Amateur Poet by an international society of poets based in the U.S. (but I ignored the nomination and invitation not only because I didn't feel I deserved it but also due to severe anxiety that had overpowered me during that time)
• I consider VINCENT BUENO--that young Pinoy pride who was born and raised in Austria--my rescuer... my hero!

VINCENT BUENO - MORE THAN A MUSICAL SUPERSTAR

I first came to know about Vincent Bueno on January 12, 2008 when I watched ABS-CBN's TV Patrol and he was in the news. He just won then the grand prize in Musical! Die Show, a prestigious reality talent competition, probably the counterpart in Austria of American Idol, although with a twist.

I was so interested in the news that the following day, when our office's copy of a daily broadsheet was delivered by the newsboy and I saw Vincent on the front page, I immediately read the news item about him.

It is natural for a Filipino to rejoice when news about a fellow Filipino, even if he is not a full-blooded one, who gained international recognition, reaches the Philippine shore. How much more when he is a full-blooded Filipino as in the case of Vincent Bueno!

The next thing I found myself doing was surfing the Internet for more news about Vincent. My effort did not fail me. So many bloggers have already written much about Vincent. Some of them even witnessed the actual competition and have accurately transformed their jubilant feelings into words and put them in print.

My interest to know more about Vincent Bueno's extraordinary talents and sudden rise to fame was further aroused by some bloggers' accounts of Vincent's stage performances as seen in video clips especially those uploaded on www.youtube.com. Even if I had not visited that web site before and had no intention to visit it, my overwhelming desire to see Vincent doing his thing in videos brought me there. I was so impressed and delighted to see his superb performances that I even clapped my hands after each performance. They were so great they gave me goose bumps!

One blogger was justified in saying and sharing her experiences with her readers that, after watching Vincent in videos, she suddenly had a wild craving to see more of him, especially his stage performances. I share the same experience and feeling.

As more and more people had seen Vincent in videos, more and more people started to show fondness for him sending congratulatory messages directly to his web page or anywhere on the Net where their fondness for him could be expressed and, hopefully, read by him. Finding him on MySpace.com, I signed up just for the purpose of sending him a message of praise. To my surprise, he replied to my message—and quite intimately at that—addressing me "Tito Goddy", after which, I found myself exultant.

Since then, I've been frequenting internet cafes watching him on YouTube.

All of the above speak well of Vincent's inherent singing, dancing, and acting talents and skills as well as his superb performances that led him to becoming a musical contest champion. To me, however, Vincent is more than just that for he even possesses qualities that can be attributed to a modern-day hero.

Having won his prize at a time when news on political turmoil and other negative issues dominated the Philippine print media and the airwaves, Vincent's win provided a respite from such alarming and discouraging news.

Vincent was able to lift the Filipino spirit and has become a sort of a unifying figure to what seems like a divided people.

Yes, Vincent is more than a musical superstar and has, in fact, achieved what a mere musical superstar may not, for in a land where the citizens are notoriously known for their colonial mentality and preference for things not their own, VINCENT BUENO has proven his power and capacity to make that nation's people proud—so very proud—of their race!
