Karen's new book, "I Can't Believe I'm Crocheting Socks," is hitting the stores this month, and I was so pleased to be able to host a blog stop tour for her to promote this wonderful new publication!
Karen and I met in a round-about way - through the Bon Jovi Fan Club! We were both active on their membership forums, and as girls do, got to talking to each other and found out we had so much in common - our mutual "crushes" on the keyboard player David Bryan, our love of reading, and our love of crocheting!
Over the years we have laughed, cried, cheered each other on through sickness and health, and became close friends - and, as Karen says in her intro of me on her webpage today - we've never met in person! But she is as dear to me as a sister, and I am so proud of her acheivements in the crochet designing field!

Karen offers two different methods to making these lovely socks - the cuff-down way and the toe-up way. Once you master these two processes, the sky is the limit on the many different ways you can create one-of-a-kind socks that will have everyone you know envious of your feet!
My personal favorite is the Ripple Sock - so feminine! And I know I'll be making a few pair of the Tube Socks for my boys come the holiday season!
If you have ever been leary of trying to make socks, give Karen's methods a try. Her instructions are written in a way that you feel like she is sitting right next to you, crocheting along. And I can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon!
About The Author:
Karen Whooley learned to crochet at age 7. She was taught by her Italian “Nonna” (Grandmother) and learned all the stitch names in Italian! Since Nonna didn’t know how to read patterns written in English, Karen had to teach herself.
Karen didn’t start her career as a designer until 1998. Up until that point she would follow patterns she bought in the store. If something didn’t work out to her satisfaction, she would modify it. Then in December of 1998, she met Terry Kimbrough through one of the many crochet lists on the Internet. Terry, who has always been one of Karen’s favorite designers, encouraged her to try her hand at designing something. Her first designs were Flower Dishcloths and to her amazement, Annie’s Attic liked them!
From that point her career took off!
When her design career started, Karen also opened the doors of Crochet Legacy. Crochet Legacy grew from just offering a few patterns, to including accessories, classes and workshops and a whole lot more.
In 2004, Karen finally learned to knit. In January 2007, Crochet Legacy became KRW Knitwear Studio, to include her patterns in Knit as well as crochet. (Be sure to check out her website at http://www.krwknitwear.com/)
Karen lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest (Washington State) with her husband of 20 years, David and her 2 children, Cassie (my little "Peanut") and Tyler.
