Yesterday we were invited to go watch the Varsity girls soccer game up at the high school. Alexa's summer nanny was going to be dancing with the dance team during the game and we've been wanting to go watch her perform. Unfortunately, the game was canceled due to a small thunderstorm that passed through, but the night off got my creative juices flowing.
Alexa asked for ramen noodles for supper. I put them on the stove in some boiling water and started cutting up some watermelon. While doing so, I ended up cutting a perfect pink smile out of the watermelon. Inspired by some amazing blogs I've been reading lately, I kept going. I had a watermelon smile, and noodles for the hair. I cut out cheese and salami for the eyes and cookie cutter stars for hair barrettes. I laid them on plates for the girls, creating a cute little happy smiley face.
They absolutely loved their dinner. Alexa ate her cheese and salami star barrettes first and Lillian ate her noodle hair. Another fun way to get them to eat all their food.
After dinner we went downstairs to the craft closet (because it was too wet to play outside) and dug out some old magazines. Scanning through each one we found all the letters needed to spell each of our names. It was a great way for Alexa to practice her letters and spelling and use the scissors. We then glued the letters to a bright yellow piece of paper and found an old white frame to display our artwork.
Ta-Dah!!
With the bright colors of my house, this could go almost anywhere.
I look forward to this fall/winter to try some new projects.
