Snuggled up on the couch with their glow sticks - watching movies.
It was everything I'd hoped it would be. Adam and I just worked half days on New Years Eve, so we were able to get some things done before picking up the girls. We surprised them with some New Year's party favors, fun party crowns and pizza for dinner plus a late night of watching movies. We watched, "Up!" and "Four Christmas's". I, of course, ended up falling asleep shortly after the girls, but Adam woke me up 30 seconds before midnight, so we could count down and watch the ball drop together. We shared our New Year's kisses on the cheeks (I wasn't feeling' the greatest) and then off to bed. Some of you might find that all rather lame, but I absolutely enjoyed every minute of ringing in the New Year in my jammies, snuggled up on the couch with my family.
We spent all day Friday tearing down our Christmas decorations and storing them away until next year. It actually didn't go as bad as I thought. Normally I dread the 'taking down and putting away' part. It's so much more fun to put things up.
During that whole process, I came up with the brilliant idea of switching out the rooms downstairs. We have 2 bedrooms downstairs in which we used one for a guest room and the girls' dance studio and the other for Adam's office. So, after a few hours of rearranging, we now have the king sized guest bed in Adam's office and the computer and futon in the guest room with the dance studio, which makes for a GREAT little den. We love it! Both rooms, we believe, will be utilized much more now.
While rearranging and cleaning those rooms, I went through and cleaned out the closet in the new 'den'. I had all the girls' art work, scrap booking stuff, arts, crafts, play dough, paint, coloring books, markers...ect..ect..ect..in there all in a heaping mess. So, now everything is organized and ready for me to go to work on one of my many New Year's resolutions for this year - scrap booking.
The cold weather kept us closed up in our house all weekend, which is exactly what I wanted. We spent some good quality family time together, which was soo much needed.
Uncle Ben came to visit Friday. He stayed for a taco dinner, a game of Catchphrase and to watch some TV. As always, the girls were thrilled to spend time with him.
I made the family dinner Saturday night all by myself. I wouldn't even let Adam in the kitchen. Lasagna, Italian garlic cheese bread, green beans, cranberries and a fruit salad with brownies and ice-cream for dessert. It may not sound that extravagant, but you have to keep in mind, I'm a macaroni and cheese with hotdogs kinda girl. So, another New Year's resolution in the works - making new foods, eating healthy and getting the girls (mainly Alexa) to try new things. Adam and Lillian LOVED it and Alexa, well, she tried it. Progress!
We thought it might be fun to camp out in the basement Saturday night. We all slept in the new 'den'. Adam and I were on the futon and Alexa and Lillian slept on a mattress we laid across their stage. It felt like a 'night away'. We had so much fun and think we'll do it again sometime.
Alexa had her friend, Maddie, over on Sunday. It was a nice break for us as Maddie entertained Alexa all afternoon. Adam was able to watch football and I was able to work on my slideshow of pictures from 2009.
It was a fabulous weekend to kick off 2010! We look forward to the new year ahead!
P.S. In addition to Crista and Amber having babies in 2010 - our friend Brie, from California is expecting her 2nd child in August. We just found out today and could not be more happy for her and Timmy. :)
