My thoughts about the weekend...

So, it's May 1st today, May Day!!  I LOVE May Day!!  When I was little we'd make little May Day baskets for our friends around the neighborhood and drop them on their doorstep, ring their doorbell and then run like the dickens so they wouldn't catch us.  It's a tradition and I love it.  When we moved into our first home almost 2 years ago, I was so excited because I would be able to recreate this tradition with Alexa and Lillian.  There were so many kids in the neighborhood - perfect for delivering May baskets.  Last year was our first "May" we celebrated in our new community and when I started asking around I was so surprised that noone had even heard of the May basket tradition.  Total bummer!!  I had the girls make some May baskets anyways and they delivered them to their friends along our street, but it just wasn't the same when we were the only ones participating.  This year, May came so quickly.  Or maybe not quickly at all, but the 'spring' that we're supposed to be having hasn't really felt like spring.  With flakes of snow falling still on May 1st, it just doesn't seem right to be out delivering May baskets.  Yes, I said snow.  We didn't get very much, in fact unless you were up before 9 this morning, you probably didn't even notice, but I do know that other parts of the state has accumulating snow..stuff that actually stuck to the ground.  Ugh!!  It was so bitter cold and windy this morning, I dressed the girls in turtlenecks for church.

Speaking of church, today we recognised the confirmants.  I think they said there were 48 total (I was in the bathroom with Lilli when they were all announced), but I think only about 30 attended.  They all marched in together with the priest and then stood in front of the congregation so we could give them all our blessing.  Now, I am honestly the LAST person to even talk about fashion and dressing up and whats in and whats not, but I was actually somewhat embarassed by what some of them were wearing.  Ok, I get it, they are teenagers, it's early in the morning (well, if you call 10:30 early) but, seriously - this is a day where they knew they were going to be recognised, we were honoring them and their new roles in the church and all their accomplishments.  They all sat together and were brought forth in front of the whole church.  I'm sorry, but I don't think sweatpants, slippers and bedhead is appropriate.  Sweatsuits, messy ponytails tennis shoes, either.  I don't expect them to be wearing suits and ties and dresses and heels, but show some respect for your church and at least put on a decent pair of jeans that don't have any holes in them.  I will say that maybe 3 or 4 were wearing nice dress pants and a button down shirt, but that's it.  Sorry - I don't know if it's a sign of the times, but what happened to dressing up on Sundays?

Saturday started off wet and rainy!!  Adam and I cleaned the house and the girls watched cartoons.  It got to the point of our house being so clean that we wanted to just leave, so it could last longer than just an hour. We took the girls to Sonic for a slushy treat and some icecream and then to the mall.  They just opened a Gordman's in our nearby mall, sooo excited!!  I got some new capris for Adam's sisters graduation coming up.  I am in love with everything they have for home decor - so, we'll be paying a few visits there in the near future, I'm sure. :)  Then, we let the girls run and play in the play area for a bit.  It seemed that everyone else had the same idea we did because there were a trillion kids there. We left when we felt they had gotten some of their energy out - and what do you know the sun was shining.  We were able to come home, ride bike and play a little bit before bed.  Hooray for sunshine!!

Sunday was just far too cold to do anything.  We went to church and then snuggled in all afternoon.  We recently got Hulu Plus - so, we've been watching reruns of Minute to Win It.  Have you seen that show?  It's where they take household things and make them into challenges that you have to accomplish in a minute.  The grand prize, if you accomplish everything is a million dollar, which I've never seen anybody win.  An example would be to balance a pencil on the back of your hand and then let go and catch it before falling - only you have to go down a line adding a pencil each time all the way up to 14.  Another would be to take a balloon, fill it with air and let the air out to knock over a row of 14 plastic cups.  It's super fun!!  My husband, being the competetive kind of guy he is, thinks he can do all of the challenges no problem.  So, we put him to the test to a few challenges around the house.  He was actually able to accomplish all of them in 1 minute.  It made for a pretty exciting afternoon and lots and lots of cheering and laughter.

Right now, I'm making dinner while watching my amazing husband and adorable kids play together outside through my kitchen window.  Life could not be any better!! :)
