I'm back! Well, sort of...trying to be!
I'd like to thank everyone for their warm thoughts and get-well wishes as I recovered from my neck surgery. It went well, but the recovery is taking a little longer than I'd like - but then again, I'm a tad bit impatient at times! On the good side, I got a lot of reading done!!
So, as I get back in the writing saddle once again, I offer an abbreviated version of "It's Monday, What Are You Reading?" as well as a review of a wonderful book I read over the past two weeks, "My Sister's Voice," by Mary Carter!

And now, a review of a book I thoroughly enjoyed while I was recuperating!
My Sister's Voice by Mary Carter
One is a successful artist in Philadelphia, the other is a successful, nationally known motivational speaker. Both are dark-headed, blue-eyed, and headstrong women. And they look so much alike, they could be twins - in fact they are twins, but they’ve never met.
In Mary Carter’s latest novel, “My Sister’s Voice,” she tells the amazing story of twin sisters, separated at a young age, who as adults reconnect with each other by accident, and who each desperately want to know why they were forced apart by their parents.
Lacey Gears is an up-and-coming artist in Philadelphia. Deaf since early childhood, Lacey is active in the Deaf artist community in Philly, has a wonderful boyfriend, Alan, and is fairly content with her life. But when she receives a mysterious note that she has a twin, Lacey first assumes the note is a joke. But when she sees a poster in a bookstore advertising a book signing with motivational speaker Monica Bowman, she finds herself looking into her own face on the poster. She wonders how it could be that she, presumed an orphan for all these years, might have a sister she had never known about.
Monica Bowman is a busy gal, promoting her book, “Architect of Your Soul,” and conducting self-help seminars all over the country. But Monica has always felt there was a little piece of herself missing. Her parents, and beloved Aunt Grace, had given her everything she could ever want, but there was still the nagging feeling that they were keeping something from her. When she discovers the existence of her sister Lacey, Monica soon becomes manically obsessed with finding her twin and reuniting.
As the flood gates of family secrets open, Lacey and Monica must face harsh facts and possibly devastating realities about their childhood that will affect their present lives forever. Will their sisterly love for each other be strong enough to sustain them on the journey to the truth?
Mary Carter has written a suspense-filled, intriguing novel that captures the reader’s attention as they experience the sisters’ personalities and adventures through her captivating story-telling. As a certified American Sign Language interpreter, Carter’s inside knowledge of the Deaf community and the challenges they face daily is evident in the dignified manner in which she approached the subject.
“My Sister’s Voice” is an excellent story of sisters, family drama, and a look into a world many of us have never been privileged to experience.
