Another nice weekend. I was talking to a gal on the phone this morning at work and we both agree that they should extend weekends to 4 days in the spring and summer. Wouldn't that be so nice.
We met Adam in the driveway Friday night, he fixed us a quick dinner and then off we were with the girls in tow to the park. A lovely walk/wagon ride it was. We arrived at the park to find it completely vacant of children. I was in complete awe over this, thinking where in the world is everyone? It's a gorgeous night, a perfect day to be at the park. Then I thought, oh, these people have houses and back yards of their own to play in and don't have to rely on the park for their outside entertainment. It bummed be out for a minute or two as we still haven't heard anything on our house. Then I was off chasing Lillian up and down the slides and pushing Alexa on the swings.
Alexa practiced SO HARD on her pumping and she is starting to sort of get it, but just not quite yet. I encourage her that practice makes perfect.
We stopped at McDonalds on the way home to grab a movie from the Red Box and some ice cream treats and then home to bed. The girls were so engulfed with fresh air, they fell sound asleep almost immediately.
Saturday morning Lillian woke up early. I still don't understand how she can sleep til 8 on week days, but always wakes up at 7 on the weekends. I think she can sense that it's a "stay home" day and doesn't want to miss out on the extra time with mommy and daddy.
I begged Adam to take us garage saling for a little while and after "a lot" of begging, he finally gave in. The thing with Adam is, he actually likes looking at sales (he'll never admit it, but he does) but, he doesn't like driving around, following the signs, ect. He just wishes they would all be perfectly lined up in a straight line, no driving required.
After stopping at one that was WAY overpriced for a garage sale and following a few signs to no garage sale at all (the sign said Wed-Fri. - Oops) he was getting a bit frustrated with me for having dragged him into this. Alexa was even wanting to go back home. I put on a sad face and asked to just look for one more. We could find the deal of the day, ya never know. So, we came upon this house that had just a few tables of things, not stuff laid out the while length of their driveway. I was immediately discouraged, because right away I could tell it wasn't a garage sale I would enjoy, it was mostly "guy stuff". But, Adam said, "You said just one more, and here it is". So, we got out walked up the driveway to be greeted by this really nice lady who said hello, complimented the beautiful day and told us we had the most beautiful children, all in one breath. The girls found a small toy that made noise right away and sat on the floor of the garage and played, while Adam found a TV for $5.00. He was hinting at me that he'd like to buy it, so I asked the lady, who was following us around, if we could plug it in to test it out first. She pointed to a plug in and told us that it's been working as far as she knew. Of course, it turned right on, looked good, we'll take it. I handed her the $5.00 and started to get the girls ready to head back to the car. The nice lady let them just take the toy because, "they are so cute and that has to count for something, right?" Meanwhile, Adam picked up a wrestling head gear and some wrestling shoes that were laid out on a table. The lady asked if Adam had wrestled and the conversation went something like this...
Adam: Yeah, I did in high school.
Lady: Oh, where did you go to high school? (This house was in Apple Valley, by the way)
Adam: Albert Lea
Lady: Oh, what year did you graduate?
Adam: 2002
Lady: Oh, you may know my son..
Adam: I might, who is your son?
Lady: Trevor Laws
Adam: NO WAY, I WRESTLED HIM!!!
Now, for those of you who don't know who Trevor Laws is, like I didn't, he is now a defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles.
The lady went and got her husband who was inside and he came out and introduced himself and then showed Adam several of Trevor's trophies. Let's just say it was a highlight for Adam!! Go figure, I have to beg Adam to go garage saling and he is the only one who comes back with a "purchase" and even meets Trevor Laws' parents. Now when any of you come over to visit, we can say, this is Trevor Laws' TV. A conversation piece!
We grabbed a quick lunch when we got home, Lillian laid down for a nap and Adam and I got ready for the surprise birthday party for Brian, one of Adam's co-workers.
Grandma Linda came, bearing gifts, as always. She had stopped at a few garage sales, too. She immediately started making something in the kitchen, bean dip salsa and tabooi (sp?), both very delicious. It was a nice snack before we head to the party. Adam and I left as soon as Lillian woke up. Grandma Linda had plans to take the girls to the park and do puzzles while we were gone.
We were told to be at the party at 3 and it was a surprise party, so you get there a little early, right? So, we pulled into Mounds View and a quarter to 3. Then we get told that Brian wasn't arriving until 3:30-4, so Adam and I stopped at an appliance store to kill some time. We looked at the washers and dryers and like always, couldn't commit to anything, because we still haven't heard anything about the house. After awhile we made our way to Brian's house. A few park board people were there, so I stood and listened to Adam talk about "work", as I didn't know anyone else at the party. After awhile we were told to gather in the garage because he was on his way. We waited and waited and waited..and waited. FINALLY, at 5 o'clock he shows up. We yelled surprise, his face turned red and then we continued to mingle. We stayed for another hour or so and then left, as it started to sprinkle.
We had a babysitter for the night, so we didn't want to head back too early. We drove to an old dollar theatre we used to go to while we were dating, but it was no longer there. We were pretty bummed but, marveled at all the things that had changed and developed since then. We drove around some more and then ended up in Apple Valley at Perkins. We were able to enjoy our meal, visit nicely without the girls. Afterwards we went to the Apple Valley theatre to catch the movie "Ghost of Girlfriends Past", but we were 15 mins late, and we didn't feel like waiting til 10:05 for the next one. So, we drove to Farmington to look at our (potential) house and then stopped to walk off our dinner at Target. We skimmed the clearance aisles and then began to miss the girls enough to want to get home.
Lillian was sound asleep in her crib, sprawled out with her arms extended above her head and her shirt pulled up showing her tummy. Yummy! Alexa was in a similar position on the couch next to Grandma. I hauled her to her bed and tucked her in.
We watched 7 Pounds, but I fell asleep. I watched the first 15 mins or so and was so confused.
After breakfast Sunday, we took Linda to see our (potential) house. She had only seen pictures, so she was anxious to see it in person. We drove around the block a few times, so she could get a "feel" for the neighborhood. She was so impressed and was happy to see it was such a nice area with lots of families. We stopped to play at a park nearby for a few minutes. The girls loved it. I told Alexa and Lillian that they had to "test it out", just incase we got the house. It's by a pretty lake with a walking trail around it and a nice dock to go fishing.
Linda left for home after we got back and we put Lil down for a nap. The rest of us ended up taking a little nap, too. It was such a gorgeous day, we head right outside as soon as we all woke up. We walked to the park where Alexa MASTERED pumping on the swings. You have no idea how much that will help me, not having to take my eyes off Lillian to go push her.
We also walked all the way around the lake. Alexa walked almost the whole way, which was close to 2 miles. Lillian wanted to walk, but we made her sit in the wagon as part of her "time out" for throwing everything out of the wagon, like our sweatshirts, water bottles, kleenex, ect. She thought it was funny to throw it out and then watch us run back for them. Little stinker!!
