August 2009
I'm sooo HAPPY to report that we had a very successful benefit sale for our little baby Amayah. My mom and dad came down Friday night and brought several boxes of things of theirs and items my Grandma rummaged up. Grandma also made some pizza bars and my Mom made some Chex Mix for the sale. I also received an abundance of items from the families at All Stars.
We stayed up til the wee hours of the night pricing items and making signs. Then got up early to organize the garage and driveway for the big day. We hung signs of Amayah and decorated a baby gift bag for donations. The morning started slow, but things picked up throughout the day. My mom was busy pricing and repricing items just to get things sold and make some money. We had a table set up with your choice for $0.50 and your choice for $1.00.
We were amazed at all the generosity and the people willing to give and help this family. So many people bought things and then gave a donation, or didn't buy something but still gave a donation. It warmed my heart knowing that there are people out there still (in today's world, with us all being about me me me and being so tight with our money) with big hearts that sacrifice to help. So many asked questions about Amayah and wished her their thoughts and prayers.
It was such an amazing feeling for me watching all this money come pouring in knowing it's going to a family that is so desperately needing it. It was a learning experience for my whole family - teaching us to 'give' is just as good a feeling (if not better) than to 'receive'.
A HUGE THANK YOU to Adam for all your help and hard work and support dealing with me during the weeks prior to the sale ~ getting things ready and set up. I love you!
Also, to my co-worker Mike and his girlfriend Karlye, my aunt and uncle, Dean and Kathy, Mom, Grandma and all the families at All Stars Montessori who donated such wonderful items for the sale.
Thank you to Shannon and her family for the use of tables and signs!!!!!!
Thank you to Jamie and kids for all your help setting up and tearing down the sale with us. Jamie - for running the sale and watching the girls. LIFESAVER!
Also, a huge thank you to all our neighbors that helped before, during and after the sale. Thank you for your donations and support.
We could not have raised all the money we did without each and every one of you. THANK YOU!
Another big thing that happened (as I mentioned in my previous post) was that Adam's car passed away. Yep! The girls and I were able to go say a final goodbye on Monday morning. Alexa took it the hardest and misses 'Daddy's Car', but she is anxious to get Auntie Ti-Ti's car this afternoon. The picture above is us 'saying goodbye'.
This other bit of news should actually have a 'post' of it's own, but we'll add it to this one as another BIG event in our lives. Adam and I were able to surprise Alexa and Lillian with a baby puppy yesterday as an early Birthday present to the both of them. I will leave it at that for now and post the whole story later with some pictures.
And finally..........We are going on VACATION tomorrow. Yes, the Lares' are finally taking a family vacation out at the cabin. We are leaving tomorrow and coming back next Tuesday. We are all looking forward to some much needed family time and R & R. The summer has gone by so quickly and we've just been so busy busy and on the go all the time, that this will be a nice way to have it all come to an end.
I may not take the time to blog while I'm on vacation, so - HAVE AN AWESOME LONG WEEKEND. I'll catch up when we return. :)
